"India Failed To Make It To Final..."

The highly anticipated cricket match between arch-rivals India and Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup is scheduled to take place on September 2 in Kandy, Sri Lanka. This clash has garnered immense excitement among cricket enthusiasts globally, as it marks the first meeting between the two teams since the 2022 T20 World Cup.

During the Asia Cup in the previous year, India and Pakistan faced off twice. The Rohit Sharma-led Indian side emerged victorious in the group stage encounter, while the Pakistan team triumphed over India in the Super 4 stage by 5 wickets. Pakistan went on to reach the final of the tournament, where they were defeated by Sri Lanka by 23 runs. India, however, was eliminated in the Super 4 stage.

Former Pakistani fast bowler Wasim Akram commented on the upcoming Asia Cup, playfully referencing the previous year's competition. "Last time we had predicted an India versus Pakistan final but Sri Lanka won the competition. All three teams are dangerous -- anyone can win on their day. There are other teams competing too. Last time Sri Lanka won the title, India even failed to make it to the final," Akram said during the unveiling of the Asia Cup trophy in Dubai.

Akram emphasized the importance of keeping politics and sports separate and highlighted the mutual respect between people from both nations. Despite political tensions, he expressed hope that sports could contribute to maintaining positive relations. "I have always maintained and said that politics and sports should be apart from each other. People-to-people contact is very important and the average Indian and Pakistani, they do respect each other. I hope eventually sanity prevails," he added.

The Asia Cup 2023 will commence with co-hosts Pakistan taking on Nepal in the opening match in Multan on Wednesday.
